What comes to mind when you think of Korea?

The country’s name is Hanguk in Korean, its traditional clothing is Hanbok, and the Korean alphabet is Hangeul. Do you know that there is a special day for Hangeul?

King Sejong invented Hangeul for the Korean people who had used Chinese characters to write. To commemorate the birth of Hangeul, October 9th was designated as Hangul Day.

In this October program, we are going to read a book about Hangeul and King Sejong, and learn the Korean alphabet. Let’s celebrate Hangeul Day together!

<Korean Storytime> is an online education program by the Korean Cultural Center New York and New York Public Library, St. Agnes. It deals with diverse themed stories every month in Korean and English.
