Director Young-joo Byun is one of the most well-known independent film makers in Korea. Her documentary Habitual Sadness in 1997 won various awards at international film festivals. In Flying Boys is her first feature film, and director Byun illustrates the maturing stages of high school teenagers, Min-jae (Kye-sang Yoon), Su-jin (Min-jung Kim) and their friends.
