Lee Jun-seop, a reputed author in his forties, returns hastily to his hometown to hear that his aged mother, who had suffered from senile dementia for over five years, has passed away. The 87-year-old grandmother's death evokes different feelings in different people. Particularly, his sister-in-law, who had served her mother-in-law, feels both of ease and grief. In the meantime, Jang Hye-rim, the reporter who came to write an article tracing his literary world through the death of Jun-seop's mother, is busy covering the story and that of the funeral rites as an observer. The funeral rites begin and the resentment that the mother's death evoked deepens. However, the funeral being under way, the family's conflict is melting away gradually and Yong-sun, who felt bitter about her uncle Jun-seop for not serving her grandmother, weeps to read Jun-seop's fairy tale. After the funeral finishes, the family members treasure the old mother's great love and her wisdom of life.
