We are thrilled to welcome South Korean writer/director Bong Joon-ho to the JBFC as our latest International Fellow. He has been making films since the 1990s, winning festival honors and critical and box-office success since the beginning. A major figure in his native South Korea, he’s earned an international reputation for his unique ability to make big, crowd-pleasing movies in unforgettably original ways. John Powers calls him “the best filmmaker to have emerged in the new millennium” and Quentin Tarantino adds that “Bong Joon-ho is like Spielberg in his prime.”

This program is made possible through The Kathryn W. Davis Fellowship for International Understanding Through Film with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. With additional support from Korean Cultural Service.
