Gallery Korea, Korean Cultural Service New York, presents, The Imagery of Korean Beauty: The Art of Yang-dong Kim, which opens on the November 4th at Gallery Korea. Yang-dong Kim's recent works of arts will be featured for the first time in the United States. Mr. Kim is a well-known artist for his lifetime pursuit in exploration of Korean identity through visualizing Korean motifs and concepts. Deeply conscious of historical sense of Korean beauty, he created a very distinct genre of arts; combining calligraphy, painting, and engraving. Thiis unique vision and style have been derived from his broad study and background including literary and artistic areas such as poetry, Chinese, calligraphy, painting, seal carving, and Korean folks¢®? art. Yang-dong Kim is currently a professor at the College of Fine Arts, Kei Myung University in Korea. As a forefront advocate of Korean tradition, he played a critical role in the movement of launching the Department of Calligraphy in the universities throughout Korea. He is the founder of Calligraphy Department at Wonkwang University (1989) and Keimyung University (1992). The opening reception of Yang-dong Kim¢®?s works will be held on Friday, November 4th, between 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Gallery Korea, Korean Cultural Service New York.
