Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Korea
To celebrate the nation’s 60th anniversary, the Korean Cultural Service NY presents the special exhibition "Images: Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Republic of Korea" from October 20 till 24 at Gallery Korea, Korean Cultural Service NY. The show features images of modern Korea: various photographs in the areas of diplomacy, security, science, technology, culture and sports. The visitors can also see the early images of turbulent times through the 1950-53 Korean War, Student Revolution of April, 1960, and the Military Coup of May 16, 1961.
During the opening reception, the special traditional Korean music performance will be held, with a quartet ensemble of Jae Sook Moon, Seul Gi Lee, Honey Lee, and Kwon Hyeong Lee. Dr. Moon is the beholder of Important Intangible Cultural Property No.23 Gayageum Sanjo and who is currently a professor at Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul. Two daughters of Dr.Moon, Seul Gi and Honey are alumni of the Seoul National University music department and have the same passion of playing the Korean traditional 12 stringed instrument, Gayageum. His son, Kwon Hyeong plays the Korean woodwind, Daegeum. The program includes various Gayageum trio pieces and a Daegeum solo.
