Well-known artists from the international jazz scene and teachers from various jazz music schools join the aspiring Korean jazz musicians for an evening of great big band music. The program includes contemporary jazz music such as Sun Seeking, Golden Wings, Night Blossom, Lemon Shark and more.

Meet the Artists
SUN CHUNG, guitar, was born in San Francisco, USA in 1982. After moving to Europe, he began playing the guitar at the age of 13. While developing an interest in jazz, Sun had the opportunity to study with musicians such as Laurent de Wilde, Michel Perez, and Pierre-Yves Sorin in France. After graduating from high school, Sun moved to New York to further his musical studies at the New School Jazz and Contemporary program, with musicians such as Buster Williams, Rory Stuart, Marc Copland, Ben Street and Lionel Loueke among others. After Chung graduating from the New School in 2006, he has had the opportunity to tour with his jazz orchestra and small group. He also organized the Korea Jazz Festival in Incheon, Korea in the summers of 2006 and 2007 as the artistic director, inviting musicians such as Egberto Gismonti, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
YEAHWON SHIN, vocal, was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1981. She started playing the piano at the age of 4. Shin attended the Dong Duk University in Korea as a vocal major from 1999 to 2002. In 2005, she moved to New York to further her musical studies at the New School Jazz and Contemporary program as a jazz and Brazilian singer as well as a composer. Shin has performed in almost every well-known venue in Korea such as the LG Arts Center, Club Evans, and the Blue Note. Shin also worked as a studio musician for numerous recording and movie soundtracks. In 2007 she has had the opportunity to perform with Egberto Gismonti at Korea Jazz Festival in Inchoen.
MASSIMO BIOLCATI, bassist, was born in 1972 in Stockholm, Sweden, and grew up in Sweden and Italy. Biolcati began his musical career at the age of 16, performing jazz on acoustic bass in Torino, Italy. At age 21, Massimo returned to Sweden to study at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm. At age 23, Massimo moved to Boston and received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Massimo was selected for the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the University of Southern California where he received his Master's Degree in Music and got the chance to study and perform with Jazz giants such as Dave Holland, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Barron, John Scofield, Christian McBride, Lewis Nash, Mark Turner and many others. Currently, he shares his time between touring the world and being in New York where he regularly performs and records.
Jarod Kashkin, piano, 22 years of age, has been studying classical piano since the age of 4. At 13, Kashkin attended the Manhattan School of Music Prep division and after 2 years made the switch to improvised music. After leaving the school to search for his own method Kashkin began producing tracks with peers and simultaneously won a few regional awards for improvising, accompaniment, and composition. Out of high school, Jarod was accepted into the New School in the Fall '01 and finally began studying Jazz formally with the likes of Garry Dial, Joanne Brackeen, Reggie Workman, and Buster Williams among others. Over the course of his studies, Kashkin also had the opportunity of Musical Directing numerous theatrical productions for St. Joseph's college out in Long Island, NY. Now, Jarod is finishing up his time at the New School, while at the same time working on fresh, new music in the studio, and polishing his sound so it can be released to the world with maturity and integrity.
Masahiro Yamamoto, saxophone, is a NY based musician from Kobe, Japan. Yamamoto started playing saxophone at the age of 12. He was in high school big band which played mostly Count Basie numbers. Yamamoto got a most outstanding soloist award at Student Jazz Festival in Japan when he was 17. The festival is the most renowned high school jazz contest in Japan. That same year, Yamamoto started taking private lessons with Hiroshi Ozone. Masahiro began to think about becoming a professional musician around that time. Yamamoto attended The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music from spring 2004 to spring 2007. He has played with George Garzone, Jane Ira Bloom, Sonny Fortune and Rachel-Z. Currently, Yamamoto can be found performing in numerous clubs with diverse group of musicians.
Jonh Beaty, saxophone, was born in 1982 in Beaumont, Texas. Beaty moved to New York City in 2001 after completing his high school education at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. In 2003, John was featured in Carnegie Hall with Slide Hampton and also has featured with Joe Lovano, Richard Bona, Kenny Werner, John Scofiled, the MK Groove Orchestra at the Blue Note, and Reggie Workman at the Iridium. Beaty recorded with world famous music producer such as Teo Macero, Dave Liebmann, and Lee Konitz. He received a bachelor’s degree from the New School University for Jazz and Contemporary and Master’s Degree from New York University, where he is currently teaching.
