Kisaeng becomes you at Dance Theater Workshop

February 25-28, 2009 at 7:30pm

Bessie Schonberg Theater (219 W 19th St., NYC)

Kisaeng becomes you is a multi-media collaboration between New York-based choreographer and video artist Dean Moss and the modern Korean and traditional dance choreographer, Yoon Jin Kim. Contemplating parallels between Chosun Dynasty kisaeng's - young women trained in the arts for the entertainment of Korean aristocracy from the 15th to the 20th centuries - and the use of poetry and through the use of blogs and videos, Moss and Kim engage the audience in an intimately layered exploration of sincerity, illusion, isolation, and the desperate desire to establish a connection.

"Moss is a master of theatrical halftones. Everything he concocts contributes to an overall shimmering effect. His worlds have the enticement of whispers; their delicacy makes us pay unusually close attention."

- Robert Greskovic, dance critic: The Wall Street Journal
