Korean Cultural Service NY

Join collaborators Dean Moss and Yoon Jin Kim, composer Okkyung Lee and writer Wolhee Choe in a talk about the inspiration, process and production of Kisaeng Becomes You, an acclaimed multimedia performance work commissioned and presented by Dance Theater Workshop. Premiering to sold-out, standing room only, audiences at the 2008 Seoul International Dance Festival, Kisaeng becomes you features five native Korean women in a performace that asks audience members to echo the lives of the kisaeng on stage.

Wolhee Choe writes in the introduction of her book Hwang Jini & Other Courtesan Poets of the Last Korean Dynasty,

"...the typical encounter between kisaeng and guest was contingent upon, or defined within the limits of infidelity and abandonment. In this context, it

was as though an experiment in love were being conducted by the kisaeng."

The panel discussion is open to public and free of charge. To make a reservation, contact 212-759-9550 or info@koreanculture.org
