LaGuardia Performing Arts Center's Mainstage Theater at LaGuardia Community College
(31-10 Thomson Ave, Long Island City)
La Guardia Performing Arts Center presents the Jeff Fairbanks Jazz Orchestra as part of the center's LPAC LAB artist residency program. The 17-piece Jazz band will be joined by Korean traditional musicians on haegeum, Janggu and Ggwaenggwari, and traditional Korean dancer Yeongjoo Jang. The program will consist of Sunnyside composer Jeff Fairbanks' original music, which fuses Korean and Chinese folk music with contemporary Jazz.
QueensBuzz.com has called Fairbanks' music "sophisticated and artful". A recognized talent, he has won national awards and recognition from ASCAP, BMI, IAJE, and numerous grants from the American Music Center and the Queens Council on the Arts. He has also toured Japan and the U.S. in the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and has performed in Europe and Latin America.
The Jeff Fairbanks Jazz Orchestra's debut album Mulberry Street is slated for release this Winter. Featuring a cast of 22 players including singular guest bari saxophonist Fred Ho, this album of Fairbanks' original compositions and arrangements fuses East and West in an imaginative new setting.
