Double Bill : Sangmin Lee & Friends / Jisun Choi Jazz Quartet

Up-and-coming Korean jazz musicians Sangmin Lee & Friends and Jisun Choi Jazz Quartet will team up for a special double bill concert to present an evening of extraordinary music.
Having grown up in Seoul, Sangmin Lee started performing at the age of fourteen, playing all over as a professional drummer by the age of seventeen. He made his debut as a member of the renowned band ‘GIGS’ in 1999. He has been touring with famous Korean pop artist Rain (Bi) and has played drums for top musicians such as Hiram Bullock, Brian Mcknight, Joe Lovano, Sam Kininger to name just a few. He has also taught many jazz students at Seoul Institute of the Arts, Sang-Myung University, Howon University and Dong-Doeck University in Korea and won the Jarasum Jazz Concours Competition as a first prize recipient in 2008. He released his first album entitled Evolution as a solo artist in 2010. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at NYU.

An accomplished pianist and educator, Jisun Choi studied music at the Seoul Institute of the Arts in Seoul, Korea. She then came to the United States after winning a scholarship from the world scholarship tour at Berklee College of Music. Jisun went to the University of North Texas to pursue her Master’s degree in the Jazz Studies program. In 2007, Jisun recorded the album Look Between Us as a member of the band ‘Forjak’ and in 2011 she recorded her debut album UP. Jisun is currently teaching Jazz piano, Jazz Improvisation, and Jazz Ensemble courses at Brookhaven College. The program features Up, Through the Side Door, Labyrinth, Alone from her album UP.
