Korean Performing Arts Center
12 E. 33rd St., 5 Fl, NYC

Seung Min Song’s solo recital will tell a long history of an evolution of Korean Traditional string instrument gayageum which it began during Gaya Dynasty. The gayageum is 12-string instrument. She will introduce three different kinds of gayageum and the musical transition, pyungryu (Court music) gayageum, sanjo(Improvisation) gayageum, and 25-string (contemporary) gaygeum. Ms. Song’s musical talent began as soon as she was born when her father, a piri player, bought a gayageum and she began learning even before she entered grade school. She has been fortunate to engage in music all her life through her musical family back ground. Even before entering high school, she learned gayageum ‘sanjo’ of various schools and won the first prize host by Chung-Ang University. Years later, she met Kim Gye-ok and learned the 25-string kayageum, a modernized version for contemporary music.

The concert is hosted by Korean Traditional Performing Arts Association. For more information, please call at 212-921-9344 or email at ktpaa@yahoo.com.
