A pioneer of “Hallyu: Korean Wave”, Young Soon Kim and WHITE WAVE DANCE presents the 16th annual DUMBO DANCE FESTIVAL at the new state of the art Gelsey Kirkland Arts Center. 70 contemporary dance troupes with over 300 performing artists will showcase their work for four nights and three days in a marathon of dance innovation. Joining New York’s active dance community, artists from across the US, Canada, Hungary, Poland, England, Japan, South Korea, and Italy, will showcase new directions in dance in the 21st century.

Jihyun Kim
Fragmentation
This piece is presenting phenomenon of fragmentation. It origins from the same status but it will show signs of division within the status and being drawn back to each other again, since it tends to keep a balanced phase.
Artistic Director Jihyun Kim from South of Korea is a versatile performer and choreographer. She got B.S degree in dance from Hanyang University. In 2011, she won the Golden- prize in ‘The 41st Dong-A Dance Competition,’ which is the most competitive concourse in Korea and started to gain attention as a highly dancer. In order to enlarging her experience, she decided to move to New York and currently pursuing her graduate studies at NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts.

This production is a Multimedia Dance/Art work, which is motivated from a Jazz vocalist, Min Jung Kim`s song, 'MY SONG'. We as human beings have a dream and make a dream an actuality. Very different genres of artists play manifold movements, express and sound about our dream. 갈까부다[Gal ka boo da] is Pansori, meaning with someone wish to leave and go out for find her love and this dream will express of the people`s dream.
After graduated Busan National University, B.F.A. in Ballet, the choreographer, Jungyun Park worked at METRO BALLET COMPANY from 2002 to 2008. The Metro Ballet company performed classic ballet, modern ballet, and choreography ballet…etc. He also studied Dance Education from Kyungsung graduate school. Recently he is working with THE BALLET Project. This company runs contemporary ballet as well as contemporary dance performance programs. Finally, BUSAN ARTIST 6 with different artist work for new style performance.
SungOk Choi / Meta Dance Project
From “Song of Wandering”, CARMINA BURANA;
This work expresses the life and love of our age with dramatic dancing and scenes from the theme of CARMINA BURANA, the chorus by Carl Orff. It embodies an age of uncertainty and many aspects of our life and love of today in ruins, by means of monumental solemnity, repetitive and energetic dancing, and three-dimensional dramatic scenes adopted from the original work, CARMINA BURANA. Several scenes will be shown from the original 25 pieces.
The choreographer, SungOK Choi is a professor of dance department at Chungnam National University, and a member of Korea Arts & Culture Education Service. He has been awarded for teaching excellence by CNU in 2013 as well as outstanding teacher by The Modern Dance Promotion of Korea in 2014. He is currently a vice president of Contemporary Dance Association of Korea, and president of 21century Contemporary Dance Research Association. Also he serves as a head/art director at Meta Dance Project, and vice president of Dance Culture Forum. He is also a recipient for the excellent prize at the 17th Seoul National Dance Festival, the president prize & excellent individual prize at the 8th National Dance Festival, the 22nd honored Daejeon Citizen Prize and the Copanas prize in 2008. He choreographed “Song of Wandering,” CARMINA BURANA(2015), Sandy house(2012), Red moon(2012), Kiss, I’m here(2011), Cyber space Odyssey21(2009), Penguin story(2005), an anemophilous flower(2001), The Aliens In Paradise III(1999), Soom (Breath), Oom (Bud), Teo (Base) (1999).

He is boom, she is tick, they are well-matched boom tick. Totally different each other but well-matched without saying and looking beyond being alike. In the relationship that appeals each other without different expression. Don’t feel the preciousness of each other and its value until being together Matching well, give and receive by emotional connection, the same idea, behaviors that boom tick matches = clips, handshakes, rhythm of boomtick, height, the feel of movement, soft and smooth or hard and rough mutually different feel of movement. Being in love = well-matched relationship. We are meaningful as we are together. Perfect link. Being together despite separation forever together.
Andamiro Art Company was founded in 2014 in the Republic of Korea. Andamiro' means ‘more than enough on a plate’ in Korean. We are the group of young artists who puts every effort to make our modern dance more accessible to the masses and our various arts forms of dance exist with expressing the younger generation’s story and their philosophy.
Hyun Kim, Renata Skobo / RH+

RH + dance duo - Renata Skobo (Serbian-Polish) and Hyun Kim (Korean). Synergy of two personalities, fusion of two cultures, combination of two individuals driven by dance. Duo which was connected by movement and by knowledge of discovering similarities in their own differences.
Hyun Kim is a choreographer, dancer, performer from South Korea, based in Europe. Specializing in contemporary movement, contact improvisation and theatre act. His movement is based on Korean traditional dance, which is strongly connected with breath control and flow of the energy. He is a choreographer and performer of various dance, film and musical productions in Asia and Europe. He is a choreographer of the Korean musicals “The Lost Garden” and “Arirang” as well as the first Korean dancer in the original version of “Notre Dame de Paris,” musical. Since 2013 he cooperates with contemporary dance company “Art Color Ballet” in Cracow, Poland. The result of this collaboration is “GHOstay” – dance performance inspired by Korean culture. He is a founder of “O-bang movement group.” Since 2013 he co-creates “RH+” duo with Renata Skobo. The “unLIMITed” performance is their first collective work.
Ju Hwan Hwang, Amanda Hinchey

A study of female identity and the perception of one's feminine self through the lenses of pop-culture. It is a group piece that is currently a work in progress. Juhwan is native of Seoul, South Korea. He holds a B.A. in architecture design from Kaywon School of Art & Design and a B.A. in dance choregraphy from Kookmin University. He has studied dance and advanced composition throughout Korea and Europe, most notably at the ImpulseTanz Festival in Vienna, Austria.
In 2008, Juhwan moved to New York and continued training primarily at Dance New Amsterdam. He has performed at the Kumble Theater at Brooklyn College, the Cunningham Studios, the DNA Theater, Green Space Studios, DUO Multicultural Arts Center, Movement Research at Judson Church, Center for Performance Research, the John Ryan Theater, Manhattan Movement Arts Center, the Museum of Arts and Design, and at Dance Place at Washington DC. Currently he is dancing for WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company. In early 2013, Juhwan began work on his own choreography and has presented work in the US as a part of the Cool New York Dance Festival, DUMBO Dance Festivaland the 'Moving Men' series at Dixon Places.

Multi-Media Dance/Theater Piece
Young Soon Kim is an internationally acclaimed choreographer who has been hailed for her exhilarating, visually stunning, and emotionally rich work. With the new production, "iyouuswe” (reads as “I-You-Us-We”), Young Soon Kim and her multifaceted team will be creating a visually provocative and intimate piece that will challenge audiences to examine who we are and how we relate to others. It’s a story about developing meaningful relationships in which we struggle to seek a sense of ‘i’ as part of a greater ‘we’.
"iyouuswe" will be an ambitious collaboration reuniting Ms. Kim, Italian composer Marco Cappelli, ‘a borderless musician’ Ki Young, multimedia artist Kate Freer, dramaturg James Leverett, costume designer Sarah Cubbage, and lighting designer Herman Bradley Boykin. Set on the current dancers of White Wave, this piece will take their collaborative techniques to new heights. There will be an original score, performed live by Marco Cappelli and Ki Young, as the dancers interact with scenes of lusciously composed images and edited footage playing on widescreen monitors. The production of “iyouuswe” will transform into a multi-dimensional ‘tour-de-force.’ “iyouuswe” features the full, world-class dance ensemble: Guanglei Hui, Anton Martynov, Tsai His Hung, Cara Seymour, Juhwan Hwang, Mark Willis, Mikelle Rindflish, Casey Lavres, James Johnson, Guidong Zhou.
