Artists’ Biography
Oboist KYUNGMI BAE lectures on classical music, performs regularly as a soloist and a chamber musician, appears with major orchestras throughout Korea, Tokyo and the U.S. and is a member of prestigious groups in Korea, including the contemporary ensemble Sori and the oboe ensemble Piri. She was a winner in many renowned competitions in Korea, including the First Prize at Yookyoung and the Dong-Ah Daily News Competition, the most prestigious in Korea (won the First Prize twice: Oboe and Chamber Music Division). As a professor, Ms. Bae’s career includes teaching oboe and chamber music at universities and arts schools throughout Korea, She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University and her Master of Music from the Mannes College of Music in New York.
Tenor JIN HWAN BYUN received a Performer’s Diploma in Professional Opera Studies and a Master of Music from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Seoul National University, College of Music. JinHwan Byun is Professor, Conservatory of Music, at Kean University and Lecturer at Lehman College, CUNY. He has performed major opera roles, Including La traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, Carmen, L’Elisir d’amore, Pearl Fishers, Don Carlo, Rigoletto, La fille du regiment, La bohème, Salome and Falstaff. Mr. Byun has won several major competitions: the top prize at the National Society of Arts and Letters (NSAL) competition and first place Bel Canto Foundation Competition, as well as finalist for the Metropolitan National Council in Chicago District.
EUNMI MOON has performed in major cities throughout the U.S. as well as in Europe, Korea, Japan, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guatemala and Mexico, among others. She lends her collaborative talents to singers and instrumentalists in chamber and vocal programs at New York’s Alice Tully, Merkin, Carnegie/Weill Recital Halls and the 92nd Street Y as well as countless music series in major museums and libraries. Ms. Moon frequently collaborates with the acclaimed soprano Theresa Santiago, a 1994 Naumburg Competition winner. A graduate of Seoul National University, Ms. Moon was the first Korean student to receive a Master of Music degree in Accompanying from The Juilliard School, where she subsequently worked as Associate Coach at the school’s famed Juilliard Opera Center. She was also a vocal coach at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. The recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, she made her Carnegie/Weill Recital Hall debut as a winner of 1995 Artist International Competition in the Piano/Cello Duo Category. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Teacher’s College, Columbia University where she has received her second Master’s degree in Music Education.
Pianist BETH NAM has performed at prestigious institutions and venues, including Carnegie’s Weil Recital Hall and Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, has won numerous competitions and scholarships, and is a recipient of several fellowships including the Music Advancement Program where her students have been granted acceptances to Juilliard and Manhattan Pre-College Divisions and the Special Music School at the Kaufman Center in New York. Ms. Nam is on the piano faculty at the Geneva Conservatory of Music and the Concordia Conservatory, both in New York. An active chamber musician, Beth is currently performing with the Allant Trio. Nam received her doctorate at The Juilliard School, where she also received her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in piano performance.
Soprano HYESANG PARK is pursuing a Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School. She made her debut with the Korea National Opera as Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, and has performed in numerous solo recitals and as orchestral soloist. She received early training at the Korea National Opera Young Artist Program. She has performed in Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore with the Korea National Opera in addition to performances in Don Giovanni, Cavelleria Rusticana, Toscaand Un Ballo in Maschera with the Seoul Metropolitan Opera. She has placed in several vocal competitions and was awarded the Minister for Culture prize in Korea. Ms. Park completed her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Seoul National University.
