Master performers Sumi Jang and Jung ho Choi with the Traditional Performing Arts Group Hwal features “suljanggu” (drum and hat play), “beona” (acrobatic slapstick), “buche-ip-choom” and “hallyangmu” (male and female fan dance), and the Sound of S(e)oul: gayageum (a traditional stringed instrument) and Korean drums, in the company's US debut.

Artists

Sumi Jang
Sumi Jang is an Artistic director and master performer of the Traditional Performing Art Group Hwal. She has won numerous awards including the Presidential Prize (2003) at World Samulnori Competition & Festival, Minister Awards (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) (2012) at 21C Korean Music project. Jang was a member of Korean national performing team for the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Korea and Denmark (2011). She has graduated from K-Arts (Korea National University of Art).

Jung ho Choi
Jung ho Choi, a Korean traditional dancer, is the artistic director of the Traditional Performing Art Group Hwal. Choi has received many awards including the Bronze Medal, Korea Dance Festival, Gyeonggi-Do (2017), 2nd Prize at the Korea Dance Association 'Next Leaders' Competition (2010) and Best Act Awards at Korea Dance Festival, Gyeonggi-Do (2009). He was a principal dancer with Gyeonggi Provincial Dance Company from 2013 to 2015 and Jeongdong Theater in 2010.
