Kim's wide range of influence is represented in this concert, including Korean folk song, art-house cinema ('Lilies,' a ballad inspired by the 1996 film), and the natural world. Also included are two Classic works of composers influential to Kim’s art. Carterette's virtuoso pianism and unique connection to this music brings it to life. He recorded the complete works for solo piano in 2013.

Known for his aestheticism and emotional sincerity, composer Quentin Kim has been creating a vivid world of fantasy, drama and intimacy through his “tireless pursuit of excellence and fascination with beauty” and conviction in the perpetual modernity of tonality. His music, heard at such venues worldwide as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Salle Cortot in Paris, has been praised and favored by the public and professional musicians alike for its “refreshingly direct” (New York Concert Review) quality, and the American Record Guide called his compositions “worthy of repeated hearings.”

Hailed as "wonderfully poetic," (Westfalen Post) and “very compelling in his power and presence” (International Composer), Nathan Carterette has distinguished himself in the concert world by performing a huge range of works from Elizabethan keyboard music to music written today. His innovative, approachable narrative recital ‘Poets of the Piano’ has inspired audiences to approach unfamiliar music with open ears, and familiar music with new appreciation. He has worked intimately with many prominent composers, having  recorded the complete works of Quentin Kim in 2013 in Busan.
