Sejong Soloists Gala: Violin Stories

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 7:30pm

Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall (57th St. & Seventh Ave., NYC)

The renowned journalist Paula Zahn returns as the MC for the Sejong Soloists ninth benefit concert. The concert features historically significant and rare violins for a program that is surely the first of its kind. Each of these celebrated Stradivarius and Guarneri violins were used or owned by a prominent composer-violinist of the nineteenth century; Pablo de Sarasate, Fritz Kreisler, and Henryk Wieniawski. Sejong Soloists benefit concert will feature performances of works by these composers on the violins that they once played.

Since its inception in 1995, the New York-based Sejong Soloists have established themselves as a top-notch, conductor-less string ensemble with close to 350 concerts on major stages throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Envisioned as a "cultural ambassador" by Artistic Director Hyo Kang, the unique ensemble brings together fourteen individually distinguished solo and chamber musicians hailing from eight different nations: Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States. They partake in performances, documentaries and TV broadcasts, youth development activities as well as philanthropic endeavors worldwide.

Tickets are $75~300. To purchase tickets to the concert only ($75 &150), contact Carnegie Hall Box office at 212-247-7800 or www.carnegiehall.org.
