An anthology movie of three short horror films, Three¢®|Extremes has been praised as a long overdue addition to a neglected genre. The newest film of Korean director Chan-Wook Park, Cut explores the revenge themes that animated his acclaimed Old Boy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Chan-Wook Park is the subject of a BAMcinematek retrospective this month. Box, directed by Takashi Miike of Japan, is the story of a young beauty haunted by tragic memories, and is full of evocative imagery and cinematic appeal. Fruit Chan's Dumplings rounds out the set with a story about a woman who preserves her youthful beauty by eating dumplings with a secret ingredient.
