Natural and abstract sounds—the sound of autumn leaves, the sounds of the night, of an ancient castle, of the moonlight—are translated into a musical form with stunning clarity and elegance.

Korean Cultural Service New York is pleased to announce the special workshop with Byungki Hwang, the celebrated composer, performer and master of the gayageum in Korea.

Mr. Hwang will discuss about his recent works based on his newly released CD Darha Nopigom, and talk about his vision on the direction of Korean traditional music.

A mini concert by his disciples and a reception will be followed.

"Mr. Hwang's pieces suggest the musical equivalents of mystically inspired watercolors, [and] musically illustrate the concept of translucency with finely spun webs of sound created by extremely delicate strummings."
