Roswell Rudd Quartet's Jazz Concert
As one of the most imaginative inspiring trombonists, Roswell Rudd (trombone) is known for his work with groundbreaking groups and musicians such as Herbie Nichols, the New York Art Quartet, Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, Carla Bley, and Steve Lacy. He has received international recognition as a performer as well as for his compositions and arrangements ranging from large-scale music dramas to instrumental jazz suites. In the consecutive years of 2003, 2004, and 2005, he was voted as Trombonist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association.
"...a trombonist of such sweeping power and majesty that he transcends all styles." - John Wilson, The New York Times
Sunny Kim will also be part of this performance. Ms. Kim had spent her teenage years in South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the United States, and such her diverse international experiences are well reflected on her singing style. Her voice boasts far-reaching flexibility, which enables her to combine jazz, soul, rock and Korean folk music together. A highlight of her career as a vocal is her recital with the bands led by jazz legends Roswell Rudd, Pheeroan Aklfaff, Min-Xiao Fen, and Gino Sitson.
