Paul Kim Performs Special Concert on the 100th Birthday of Olivier Messiaen
Internationally acclaimed pianist Paul Kim will perform a special concert celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of French composer Olivier Messiaen's birth. Paul Kim has been praised for his "clear transparent quality and bright flashes of virtuosity" (New York Times) and "strength of character and personality" (Gramophone). A noted Messiaen specialist, Paul Kim has been hailed throughout the world for his authoritative and groundbreaking performances. Among his award-winning discography, titles include Messiaen's complete piano works (on 7 CDs). His latest release Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (part of the complete Beethoven symphony cycle) has gained tremendous reception.
This concert, presented by the famed Voices of Ascension, will be held on the exact day marking a hundred years since Messiaen's birth. The program will feature Paul Kim's performances of Messiaen's solo piano works, the Quartet for the End of Time (with Curtis Macomber, violin; Jonathan Spitz, cello; Alan Kay, clarinet) and organ works performed by Jon Gillock.
