Hye-Kyung Hong performs in La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera as Violetta, Verdi’s most engaging heroine. Thomas Hampson sings Germont and James Valenti makes his Met debut as Alfredo. Leonard Slatkin conducts.
Hong became the first Korean to win the Metropolitan Opera Competition in 1982. She then made her debut at the theater in 1984, playing Servilia in Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito. Hong starred in La Traviata production in 2007 with tenor Woo-Kyung Kim. The two became the first Koreans to play the leading roles in the same production at a Metropolitan opera.
