Korean Cultural Services New York will present ‘Happy Haeguem of Jeung Lim Kim’ on July 8th 2011. This concert will present various gifted performers, such as Jeung Lim Kim, Jingoo Lee, Yoni Etzion, John Bishop and Ku il Oh.
Jeung Lim Kim, a distinguished haegum (two-stringed Korean traditional fiddle) performer, is a Grand Prize recipient of both the 10th Seoul Korean Traditional Music Competition and the 6th Donga Korean Traditional Music Competition. She currently works as an adjunct professor at Chugye University of the Arts and is also a lecturer at various universities including Korean National University of Arts, Hanyang University, Ehwa Womans University, and several more institutions. As a principal player of the Folk Music Group at National Gugak Center, she continues her musical career by performing at various events such as the Korea Gugak Festival, Concert for the Beijing Olympics and etcetera.
This concert will feature traditional Korean music such as the ‘Haegeum Sanjo’, performed in the style of Yongjae Kim and the Jomyung-gok (Bird’s Song), a piece featuring a lyrical evocation of nature using the melody of the namdo gyemyun-jo. The concert will also feature contemporary works of composer Jingoo Lee who has won numerous awards. Several of Lee’s works will be based on familiar melodies, such as ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ and ‘New Black Cat Nero.’
