July 15 - August 6, 2011

Various locations in NYC

Hip Hop Generation next: From the South Bronx to East Asia, will celebrate South Bronx roots of Hip Hop and explore the global evolution of Hip Hop culture. Korean artists such as Jong Hoan Choi (“Ra”), Ji Hye Weon (“1G”), Rapper Mina Joo and violinist Michele Joo will participate in this series.

The highlight of the season, titled From the South Bronx to East Asia, is scheduled on August 3rd and will be performed at the Asia Society of Hip Hop/Kung Fu. From the South Bronx to the East is a work by Emilo ‘Buddha Stretch’ Austin Jr., “Loose Joint”, and Michele Byrd McPhee that juxtaposes the formality, structure, and strict discipline of Asian martial arts with the looseness and spontaneity of hip hop. With many people already in great attention, the performance is in preparation with free in charge for everyone. To RSVP, please visit https://tickets.asiasociety.org/public/

Also, there will be a From the South Bronx to East Asia block party on August 6th at Simpson Street in front of Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. The block party will feature performances by members of the Hip Hop/Kung Fu ensemble of Asian and American dancers, musicians, DJs, martial artists and many other artists.

There are more exciting programs for Hip Hop Generation next, including ‘Stepyagameup’ and ‘Public Dialogue’. For more information, please visit http://www.dancinginthestreets.org.
