Seung-wan Ryu, Drama

Director Seung-wan Ryoo turns the boxing-movie genre on its head with Crying Fist. Pairing veteran Korean actor with Min-sik Choi (Old Boy) with Ryoo's own brother, Seung-beom Ryoo, the film paints a gritty picture of a world in which it is not easy to tell whom to root for. It follows the trajectories of two down-and-out characters who both turn to boxing, and covers their eventual collision. Crying Fist won the FIPRESCI Jury Award from the 2005 Cannes International Film Festival.
